Are all estate sales the same?
No. We at AFF (Always Family Focused) recognize that each family is unique, and therefore each sale will be handled individually. Our first goal is to come to your home and have a discussion with you about your needs and expectations. Together, we will come up with a plan that will work for you and your family.
How much do you charge to conduct an estate sale?
The charge varies depending on the size and value of the estate. The cost consists of a flat percentage that is determined after viewing the contents of the sale. There may be additional charges depending on various factors such as the need for security during the sale, cleaning charges or special instructions on how to handle leftover sale items. All costs will be determined and discussed before signing a sales contract.
Do I need to clean my house before the sale?
Estate sales are a place for people to come and find all types of items, and they do. We recommend that you do not throw things away in advance of the sale. Our experience allows us to go through and determine what items should truly be thrown out. We do however, appreciate and encourage you to have a clean home.
Can I be present at the sale?
We would never tell you that you cannot be present at your own estate sale. However, we have found that the owner being present usually has a negative affect on the sale. Buyers feel uncomfortable knowing the owner is present. The owner may become upset seeing people purchasing, or not purchasing their things. Sentimental attachment is something that we cannot charge for, and can become a point of contention. It is also difficult for owners to remain uninvolved if they are present. We therefore, strongly urge people to be out of the house on the days of the sale.
How do you come up with your prices?
Pricing involves several factors: Location of the sale, market value, condition of the items, and customer base. We work very hard to get the pricing right. It is important not to price so high that people become discouraged and do not want to buy anything. On the other hand, we want to make sure that the client gets as much for their items as possible. Our team consists of people that have worked in the estate sales or antique sales industry long enough to be competent in pricing. If there is ever an item that we are unfamiliar with, we will research and/or find someone that has the knowledge we need to accurately generate a price.
What do you do with the items that do not sell?
There will almost always be items left at the end of a sale. The items belong to the client, so it is up to you as to what will be done with the leftovers. We are available to help with several options, or you may decide to make the decision for yourself. Either way, we support what is in the client’s best interest.
